Source of Wealth, Renova Group,,,,
Born in Ukraine, Viktor Vekselberg is one of Russia’s most influential business oligarchs. Vekselberg attended the Moscow Transportation Engineering Institute, starting his career as an engineer and researcher. When the Soviet Union allowed the creation of more private businesses, Vekselberg co-founded Renova Group with another future multi-billionaire, Leonard Blavatnik. Vekselberg’s estimate net worth is upwards of $12.5 billion.
He is an avid art collector and famously bought nine Fabergé eggs that were for sale by members of the Forbes family in 2004. A Fabergé egg is a limited collection of custom eggs decorated in jewels. There were 50 eggs made and only 42 are known to still exist. They were made between 1885 and 1917; famously designed for the likes of two Russian Tsars. Vekselberg now owns a total of 15 Fabergé eggs and says he is passionate about collecting them because of their unique place in Russia’s rich cultural history. Vekselberg has said that he hopes to display the eggs in a museum that he plans to open in the future.
