Source of Wealth, Co-founder of Aldi ,,,
Ubiquitous throughout western Europe, Aldi supermarkets are a product of founding brothers Theo and Karl Albrecht. The success of the stores has given Karl Albrecht the largest fortune in Germany and a place on the List of Billionaires.
Following World War II, the Aldi brothers took over control of a grocery store operated by their parents. Eventually turning the single store into a chain of retail outlets rebranded as Aldi (Albrecht-Discount), the brothers split control, and the company, in twain in 1961. Theo headed Aldi North while Karl took charge of the more lucrative Aldi South. By 2002, Karl was no longer involved in operations of the business. Theo Albrecht died in 2010.
Karl Albrecht is perhaps most famous for his reclusiveness. It is known that he lives in Essen, Germany and enjoys rounds of golf at his private course.
