Source of Wealth, Enterprise Rent-A-Car,,,,
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is one of America’s largest and most popular car rental companies. It was founded by Jack Crawford Taylor, a businessman hailing from Missouri. He studied business at Washington University in St. Louis before quitting school to join the US Navy. Taylor is a decorated Navy pilot who fought in World War II. During the war, he served on the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier.
Taylor founded his first company after the war, taking a job as a car salesman shortly after. In 1967, he started his first rental car business, as part of the car dealership that employed him. Two years later he expanded the company and called it Enterprise. He focused his marketing on the hometown crowd; hence the catchphrase “We’ll Pick You Up.” His business grew from seven cars at his first company to 50,000 in 1989. He decided to specify the company details in the name and changed the name from Enterprise to Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Just a few short years later, his company was raking in $1 billion. By 2007, the company grew so large that they bought out two competing companies: Alamo Rent-A-Car and National Car Rental. Taylor has a net fortune of $11 billion.
