David Thomson took over control of the family fortune first created by his grandfather when his father died in 2006. Prior to that, Thomson was already a successful businessman and a member of the List of Billionaires. As the founder of Osmington Incorporated, a real estate company, Thomson is a part owner of the professional hockey team, the Winnipeg Jets, as well as the arena in which they play.

The Thomson family has long been the richest in Canada. In 2008, the already vast media empire built by his father and grandfather merged with the Reuters company, forming Thomson Reuters and creating a powerful entity in the media industry.

David Thomson not only owns the Winnipeg Jets hockey team, but the arena they play in. His participation in the NHL puts him on our list of billionaires at the Business Rich.
